This is what I have been working on since January February and WHY I have not been blogging. It has been hard work especially getting going . I initially involved myself in all sorts of material experiments including among other things wax and pyrography - neither of which has been used in the installation here but I will certainly return to these later.
I also considered using digital print on aluminium but then when I found out how much the company wanted to just do my trial proof _ I thought they were being greedy - such a shame as the quote they had given me for doing ten A3 size images wasn't too bad. They wanted about half of that amount just for the initial proof !!!
Anyway here is the piece - its called Aran and I am just working on the final 'refinements at the moment.
I have been keeping a sort of studio log on my new Flickr account which is where clicking on the heading with this image will take you.
I will soon post the statement that goes with this installation hereon my blog.
Thanks for the comment on my pea illustration. The story about your brother made me laugh and I will definitely try and find the cartoon you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI once went on a tour of a print studio in Edinburgh (can’t remember where exactly) but I found it so inspiring. I ended up doing a 7 feet by 8 feet piece using photo silk screening. A bit of a risk as it was for an exam and I had never done anything like it before.
Good luck with the installation (if that’s what one is meant to say?)
Hi Aine,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous blog with some really interesting and beautiful work. In answer to your questions about silk - yes I just rpinted directly onto it without any preparation to the fabric. I fins that it prints very well, although the solid blocks of colour I have been using on the skirt panels have been a lot more translucent - and therefore a bit faded looking - than I had first hoped. But I suspect that that is becaue of the quantity of transparent ink I had in teh mix! The section on the blog post is straight ink and it is an etching on steel. I have printed calico as well, and it is very nice. I love the texture that it gives to the print. I can't remember if I did a post with one of those prints, but I will do it again so you can see! My daughter will be in Edinburgh - performing in the fringe festival - and my son has just moved to Ireland with his partner, who is from Ireland! Such a small world these days.
