Remix 100

This little print is on its way to Perth now to become part of the Remix 100 project. I am not too sure how this came about i.e., the exhibition of the little prints housed in CD boxes, but I am pretty sure that Su Grierson or Perth Visual Arts Forum will have had a fair amount to do with it as I get the impression that this is a lady who likes to get things done once she sets her mind to it.
I popped this print in a CD case, in a "Jiffy' bag(envelope) into the postbox at about 11.30 this morning. It's probably in a sorting office somewhere now - actually I think it will be Edinburgh.

Apparently this exhibition is next going to be shown in China. That will be about the fifth time I have shown there. First time was through the Irish exhibition of works by James Ryan at his gallery there in China - this was called "6x6". I will post the images I showed in those two exhibitions sometime here on the blog.

Belated Happy Birthday to me !!!

This amusing card was sent to me by my dear friend Linda H., we have been friends for ages. Speaking of which --I just can't believe it but I have reached the age of 50. Inside of myself I guess I feel the same as I did ten years ago or something like that but what with all the health problems I have I guess I have been feeling like I am 90 since my mid thirties which is when my "scoliosis " became far too assertive for my liking. Anyway I just love this card. Linda has sent me some lovely ones over the years.. I keep them all.

Eimearjean Mc Cormack

Came across this Irish artists work on a website called Canvas ie.
I like her way of working, for example this is a mono print on silkscreen. Perhaps it's a trace monotype. Or maybe it has been collaged onto the surface of the screenprint. I can see no reason not to proceed thus as I am not a "purist" where printmaking is concerned.
I think that there are so many people making prints with landscape scenes or still life type images or heaven forbid nudes.....zzzzz.......... oh it gets so boring.

Anyway I like the simplicity and essential nature of this work.
Speaking of playing about with how one makes works using printmaking techniques, on Thursday and Friday of this week I went to the print workshop to make some small print works for a project and these involved me using hard ground plates on top of chine colle digital images on Japanese paper as well as the usual chine colle coloured papers which I purchased over a year ago at Falkiners in London.

ARAN installation

This is what I have been working on since January February and WHY I have not been blogging. It has been hard work especially getting going . I initially involved myself in all sorts of material experiments including among other things wax and pyrography - neither of which has been used in the installation here but I will certainly return to these later.
I also considered using digital print on aluminium but then when I found out how much the company wanted to just do my trial proof _ I thought they were being greedy - such a shame as the quote they had given me for doing ten A3 size images wasn't too bad. They wanted about half of that amount just for the initial proof !!!

Anyway here is the piece - its called Aran and I am just working on the final 'refinements at the moment.

I have been keeping a sort of studio log on my new Flickr account which is where clicking on the heading with this image will take you.
I will soon post the statement that goes with this installation hereon my blog.

Further (exhibition in Belgium)

The exhibition of the international portfolio of prints FURTHER is now being shown at the Fransmasereel Centre in Kasterlee, Belgium. I used to to live in Belgium when I was 19.

Created by the artists featured in the recently published book "Printmaking on the Edge" by Richard Noyce, As mentioned previously the folio of prints has been created by the artists featured in the recently published book "Printmaking on the Edge" by Richard Noyce.

The printmakers portfolio is devised and coordinated by Scott Betz, one of the artists featured in the book, this project has led to the creation of an edition of 40 portfolios of prints by a large number of the book's artists. Producing prints in a wide range of mediums the artists have responded to the theme of 'Further' in relation to their work.

The creation of this 'portable exhibition' has led to two exhibitions in winter 2006, at the Salem Fine Arts Centre in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, and at the Galleria Harmonia in Jyväskylä in Finland.

There will be more exhibitions of the 'Further' portfolio, at galleries including the Grafikos Galerija in Kaunas, Lithuania (February 2007), The Frans Masereel Centre in Kasterlee, Belgium (May 2007), the Graficki Kolektiv Gallery in Serbia (summer 2007), and the Galerie Hörnan in Falun, Sweden, as part of the Falun Print Triennial in August 2007.

Other galleries in a number of countries have shown interest, and details will be added on this page as they are confirmed.
